Although Welcome To Plathville’s Ethan Plath and Olivia Plath’s marriage has ended, there might still be a path back for the duo. Olivia and Ethan looked dreamily in love during large parts of their marriage. For most of their stint together on Welcome To Plathville, the pair were the black sheep of the family after they decided to leave the Plath family house.

However, after multiple struggles and short separations, Olivia and Ethan finally announced their divorce in October 2023. In hindsight, their young age and brief courtship at the time indicated the troubles to come. Nonetheless, the duo were in love, and there might still be hope for them.

Olivia & Ethan Were Each Other’s First Loves

Olivia and Ethan’s love story started as teenagers when the duo met during a summer family camp at the Smokey Mountain No Greater Joy Shindig in 2014 (via YourTango). Since they both grew up in conservative Christian homes and were homeschooled, they essentially got to socialize with other families during such events. However, it wasn’t love at first sight for the duo. Despite dancing with Ethan more than any other boy at the camp, Olivia disliked being teased about it, and her family saw something developing between the duo long before she did.

While Ethan knew very quickly he felt drawn to Olivia, she was a bit hesitant due to his slightly younger age and immaturity. However, their relationship developed into a full-fledged romance after Olivia’s countless visits to the Plath family house and exchanging handwritten letters between the duo for over a year. When they met face to face again at Plath’s family house in Georgia, the lovebirds had their first dinner date, and Olivia realized her deep feelings for Ethan. Their courtship developed quickly afterward, and the pair tied the knot less than a year after being engaged.

Olivia & Ethan Have Been Through A Lot Together

Despite a relatively hurdle-free courtship, Olivia and Ethan’s problems started after marriage. Olivia struggled to cope with the Plath family’s strict rules. After moving into their place, Olivia and Ethan’s relationship with his family worsened so much that Ethan couldn’t see his siblings without supervision. Although the couples tried to resist the pressure, their marital issues only worsened, and they soon started arguing on-screen. Welcome To Plathville season 3 partly showcased the couple’s decision to try therapy to work on their relationship. The couple briefly separated afterward when Olivia left their marital home as she was unhappy living in Ethan’s hometown.

However, the couple found a compromise by moving to Tampa, Florida, with Ethan’s sister, Moriah Plath, and Olivia’s brother, Nathan Meggs. Sadly, that didn’t do much to help their relationship, and their massive argument after Olivia’s little brother, Micah Meggs’s death, a huge indication of their divorce to come just months later.

Could Ethan Change To Be More Like Olivia?

Besides being raised in similar households, Olivia and Ethan didn’t have much in common. While Oliva was adventurous and willing to evolve, Ethan was more laid-back and committed to his conservative and strict background. Ethan and Olivia had different beliefs and thought processes about politics, children, and morals. Nonetheless, Olivia was willing to stay in the relationship despite Ethan’s opposing values. More conscious effort on Ethan’s part to adapt a little bit to Olivia’s personality might have kept the lovebirds’ marriage together.

Although Ethan loved Olivia, he was too grounded in his beliefs and never really put in much effort to change, which led to their divorce. While Ethan is only 25, it is still possible for him to change and reconcile with Olivia. However, if Ethan wasn’t willing to adapt to Olivia’s flexible lifestyle while they were still married, it is almost impossible to imagine him changing now that the Welcome To Plathville stars are divorced.
