Sister Wives’ Christine Brown Announces ‘Gritty and Honest’ Memoir About Leaving Mormonism
The TLC star, who ended her spiritual marriage to Kody Brown in 2021, shared the news on Instagram on Feb. 4
Christine Brown Woolley is taking control of her narrative in a new book.
On Feb. 4, the Sister Wives star, 52, announced on Instagram that she will publish her memoir, Sister Wife: A Memoir of Faith, Family and Finding Freedom, through Gallery Books this fall.
Brown Woolley, who was raised in Utah by polygamist parents, always desired to have a “picture-perfect family,” per the book’s synopsis; when she became Kody Brown’s third wife in 1994, she felt she’d finally found it. The Brown family were members of the Apostolic United Brethren, a fundamentalist Mormon group that practices polygamy. The 2010 launch of the TLC reality show Sister Wives, which detailed the spiritual marriage between Kody, Brown Woolley and fellow sister wives Meri, Janelle and Robyn Brown, brought their story to mainstream audiences.
But Brown Woolley experienced a “darker truth” onscreen, and in her new memoir, she shares the journey that led her to leave the church and embark on a new chapter.
“Moving, genuine and insightful, this is a uniquely powerful tour de force of Christine’s journey toward and beyond her time in the spotlight as a sister wife,” the synopsis states.
“It is gritty and honest as I tell my story living polygamy as a child, to my marriage and family life,” Brown Woolley wrote on Instagram. “It shows my heartache with leaving religion and my marriage to FINALLY meeting @david__woolley.” The star married David Woolley in 2023, after ending her spiritual marriage to Kody in 2021; Janelle and Meri left the marriage in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
Brown Woolley also shared a carousel of photos, including from the book cover photoshoot, and gave a shoutout to her co-writer Kelly Kennedy.
Brown Woolley previously wrote a book about her time in her polygamist marriage. Becoming Sister Wives: The Story of an Unconditional Marriage, written with Kody, Meri, Janelle and Robyn, was published in 2012 and was a #1 New York Times bestseller.
In Sept. 2024, Brown Woolley took to social media to share encouraging messages to women who might feel “trapped, stuck and afraid.”
“There is hope. It’s a brighter future, it’s a brighter world. It is in your control. There are answers out there. Believe me. There are answers and I believe in you,” Brown said. “I know there’s better things in store for you.”
Sister Wife: A Memoir of Faith, Family, and Finding Freedom will hit shelves on Sept. 16 and is now available for preorder, wherever books are sold.
