‘Sister Wives’ Star Kody Brown Fears Daughters Might Join ‘Cult-y’ Church

Brown family patriarch and polygamist Kody Brown, of TLC’s Sister Wives, knows a lot about exploring different churches. On the Sunday, December 15 episode of the popular reality series, the 55-year-old mentioned that his own church “was literally kind of an excommunication of people who used to be members of the LDS [Latter Day Saints] church or who had affiliation with that.”

But when Kody’s wife Robyn told him that their daughters, Breanna, 19, and Aurora, 22, were looking to find a church of their own, Kody cited some “concerns.” The reality star said he had “anxieties and fears” about religion that he would endeavor not to pass on to their daughters, whom Kody legally adopted in 2015. (Robyn shares her daughters with an ex from a previous relationship.)

“I wouldn’t really have a problem with any of the kids going to the plural marriage, even though I would be warning them of some red flags,” said Kody, who is legally married to Robyn but was previously “spiritually married” to Meri, Janelle, and Christine. All three women separated from Kody between between 2021 and 2024, which appears to have left Kody with some spiritual doubts. In fact, he said that he wouldn’t be “fond” of the idea of Aurora and Breanna joining his and Robyn’s church, which has a “doctrine of plural marriage where it is required by commandment for any of those who want to progress through eternity.”

Although Robyn explained that the girls wanted her, and not Kody, to be the one they talked to as they explored different church communities, Kody said he was happy to see his daughters exploring religion. “I’m really glad that they want to go on this journey that they’re going to go on,” he said in a confessional on the show, adding that he would be careful not to “poison” their experience with his own fears. “As long as I steer them clear of any culty-like churches, I’ll be okay after.”
