Sister Wives’ Meri Brown Jokes About Catfishing Scandal While Meeting Christine’s Boyfriend
Meri Brown didn’t have to fish for jokes when she was introduced to Christine Brown‘s now-husband David Woolley.
In fact, the TLC star made a crack at her own catfishing scandal when she learned that the couple met online. As seen in E! News’ exclusive preview of Sister Wives‘ Nov. 10 episode, which showed Meri’s first-ever encounter with David at a family party, she didn’t mind poking fun of her unfortuitous experience with online dating.
“I found him online,” Christine said of David, prompting Meri to quip, “Better be careful about that.”
As the trio burst into a fit of giggles, Christine told Meri, “You make a good joke! I like it!”
In 2015, Meri fell victim to a catfishing scheme when she struck up an online romance with someone she thought was a man named “Sam.” She later discovered that it was a woman behind the flirtatious messages, putting a strain on her relationship with longtime partner Kody Brown at the time.
Meri and Kody ultimately called it quits in 2022, nearly a year after Christine had already left their plural marriage.
But, as Meri noted during a confessional in the Sister Wives preview, she still felt some underlying tension between herself and Christine, who was the first sister wife to separate from Kody.
“Me and Christine talking to each other at this party is both of us being on our best behavior,” she admitted. “The whole process of our family separating and now Christine dating is just a little bit weird.”
Ultimately, Christine went public with David on Valentine’s Day in 2023. The pair tied the knot nearly eight months later at a Utah wedding attended by her kids Aspyn, 29, Mykelti, 28, Paedon, 26, Gwendlyn, 23, Ysabel, 21, and Truely, 14, as well as former sister wife Janelle Brown, who officially split from Kody in 2022.
Christine did not invite Meri, Kody or his only remaining wife Robyn Brown to the nuptials.
Still, Meri wished Christine well during her first meeting with David, congratulating the couple. After all, as she noted in her confessional, she would want the same support when it’s time for her to find love again.
“I plan on it,” Meri said of finding a new relationship. “When I date somebody, it will just be another next step of the difference in this family structure.”
Sister Wives airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on TLC.
